Smartphone users will have a pretty busy next couple of months, as Samsung, Apple, Xiaomi, Meizu and other major handset makers are expected to launch new flagship smartphones.
Samsung is always launching its high-end Galaxy Note models in early September at IFA trade fair, but the smartphone does not make it to the market until October. However, this year it looks like things might be different since Samsung desperately wants to maintain its high-end market. In order to do that the Galaxy Note 5 needs to sell better than the iPhone 6s, which is expected to be unveiled this fall as well.
Although rumors emerged last month which pointed to an earlier Galaxy Note 5 release, Samsung officials denied their company plans to launch the next flagship smartphone in August.
It appears that Samsung is likely to launch the Galaxy Note 5 next month though, as Reuters reports a person with knowledge in the matter confirmed, declining to be identified due to the sensitivity of the information.
Fans might be able to pre-order it beginning next month
Even though the South Korean company previously announced its Galaxy Note 3 and Galaxy Note 4 in early September at IFA, the Samsung Galaxy Note 5 might be unveiled as early as mid-August. Still, that doesn't mean that the flagship smartphone will be available for purchase next month. Usually, it takes about 1 to 2 months to brings the next Galaxy Note handset on the market. But that information is a mystery for the moment, not to mention this is just an unconfirmed rumor. The good news is we will most likely find out more in the next couple of weeks since we're less than 2 months from IFA 2015 trade fair.
"I don't know how much the earlier launch will help boost the company's average selling price for smartphones, but this suggests that Samsung will work hard to maintain its market share for the high-end market," said HDC Asset Management fund manager Park Jung-hoon.
