Apple’s up and coming iPhone 5S is mere weeks away, and the leaks are getting more and more abundant, with the latest one showing some key differences in the chassis.
The iPhone 5S will look almost identical to the iPhone 5, but only on the outside. Inside the phone will have updated components, including a reported fingerprint sensor behind its Home button. And if the latest hardware leak (via Nowhereelse.fr) is any indication, the rumors may hold water. An overlay of a recently leaked motherboard with the new chassis seems to suggest a perfect fit, and there are also rumors flying around that the phone will sport a dual LED flash and a 12 megapixel camera sensor. As expected, the iPhone 5S will be an incremental update, but Apple is banking on more discoverability of its iOS platform via a cheaper version of the phone made from polycarbonate plastic - the iPhone 5S.
Both phones will reportedly be announced at a September 10 event. The iPhone 5S will be priced relatively high, as Apple will throw in everything it’s got to compete with the high-end Android devices available today. Sadly, the screen size seems to remain in place (4 inches on the diagonal). The iPhone 5C, on the other hand, will be priced lower (by Apple standards, of course), but will reportedly sport iPhone 5 components in a plastic chassis. One analyst has recently voiced concerns that Apple will probably leave out software features from the cheaper model – such as Siri – to prevent cannibalization of the 5S. We filed it under nonsense. The 5S will reportedly ship with an additional “gold” color option, though some pundits are unconvinced that Apple will ship that. The 5C will offer a range of colors (going by the latest leaks), including some warm shades of blue, yellow, and red.
