Tizen Indonesia is one of the few companies that are still trying to prove that a tablet doesn't need the Apple iOS or the Google Android operating system to be great. Here is the latest attempt.
Granted, to call it attempt might be going a bit far, because Tizen hasn't exactly done anything in the recent past. Or at least, the company hasn't done anything officially. Behind the scenes, however, it has been hard at work shaping and optimizing the Tizen 2.0, also known as Magnolia. Obviously, that the device is called Tizen 2.0 means that it isn't the first iteration that the company tried out, but that's neither here nor there. Then again, the company hasn't exactly tried out this one either. It has only completed an experimental version that will only be sold to developers. Chances are that even the finished product will only be available to developers and not the general population, for a time at least.
The reason? Since the slate doesn't run either of the two acclaimed operating systems, there are few apps that will work on it. That's where developers come in. Tizen will release the Magnolia tablet at some point between October 23 and October 25, 2013. That's when the Smartphone & Mobile Expo will take place in Japan. It is still uncertain if the Tizen OS will have any measure of success. At least we know that some developers are showing interest. If nothing else, the Tizen 2.0 Magnolia will be cheaper than iPads and Android slates, and definitely Windows slates as well, so that's one less thing to worry about.
That said, here are the few specifications so far known: a quad-core ARM Cortex-A9 CPU (1.4 GHz), 2 GB of DDR3 memory, an LCD with WUXGA resolution (1920 x 1200 pixels), 32 GB storage space, 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi, two cameras (2MP rear camera & 0.3MP front-facing camera) and a microSD card slot.
