Galaxy S III, the latest flagship Android-based smartphone from Samsung, has sold over 10 million units all around the world, in only two months of availability.
The info comes from Shin Jong-kyun, the president of Samsung's information technology and mobile communication division, Yonhap News Agency reports. The new mobile phone was unveiled to the world in early May, and became available for purchase before the end of that month. According to Shin Jong-kyun, the device has already become a 10-million seller, though no specific number of sold devices was provided. Apparently, Samsung is currently selling just a bit shy of 200,000 Galaxy S III units each day, which makes it the best-selling handset in the Galaxy S lineup. Galaxy S II, its predecessor, needed around five months to reach 10 million sold units. Samsung’s latest flagship smartphone is expected to continue to register strong sales throughout the third quarter of the year, since Apple won’t have a new iPhone model on the market until September or October. Moreover, the South Korean handset vendor is expected to sell over 40 million Galaxy S III devices by the end of the current year, which would mark a new record for the company.
Despite a series of reports regarding handset’s outer build, users are generally happy with the new smartphone, and many of them even consider it the best Android device until now. Galaxy S III arrives on shelves with a large 4.8-inch touchscreen display and with an Exynos 4 quad-core application processor packed inside, while featuring an 8-megapixel photo snapper on the back. Powered by Google’s Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich at the moment, with Samsung’s own TouchWiz user interface loaded on top of it, the handset is expected to receive an update to the newer Android 4.1 Jelly Bean platform release in the not too distant future.
