Qualcomm is the proud developer of the famous “Krait” architecture, and now the company is showing the first ARM tablet running on Windows RT. This is a device that likely uses a 1.5 GHz SnapDragon S4 processor and 2 GB of RAM system memory.
We liked the “Windows on ARM” moniker better than Windows RT. Especially because it could be shortened to “WOARM,” but Microsoft seems the think that Windows RT sounds better and, although there’s a clear link with Windows 8, it’s not calling it Windows 8 either. Qualcomm’s dual-core Arm SnapDragon S4 processor seems to be running the tablet pretty smoothly, and this is clear proof that ARM’s Cortex A15 architecture is – and will be – a huge thorn in Intel’s Atom product line.
The company is, of course, planning quad-core versions of the “Krait” architecture, and we can only imagine just how well will those processors work with Microsoft’s newest addition.
