The Fastest Mobile GPU Shows Its Muscles

Right now, AMD is enjoying being the company making the most powerful mobile GPU. The Radeon HD 7970M is currently shipping in Eurocom’s Racer 2.0 gaming notebooks.

This is the highest performing mobile GPU from AMD, and it will likely enjoy high sales until Nvidia’s own mobile flagship leaves the certification phase and starts shipping. The AMD Radeon HD 7970M is actually based on a “Pitcairn” GPU that, on the desktop, is called Radeon HD 7870, but it’s a rather powerful chip.

Eurocom’s configuration used an Intel Core i7-3720QM processor with 2x 4GB DDR3-1866 memory, a 1x 120GB SSD Intel 520 and Microsoft’s Windows 7 Pro 64-bit. Using this configuration, Eurocom’s Racer 2.0 notebook managed to achieve a P22111 score in 3D Mark Vantage edition and P5848 in 3D Mark 11.
