NVIDIA's GeForce GTX 680 managed to squeeze past the AMD Radeon HD 7970 in benchmark tests, but AMD might not allow this ranking to last much longer.
If what AtomicMPC says is true, then the Sunnyvale, California-based company will release a card that attains higher clocks on the same voltage.
The manufacturing process has supposedly improved enough that even 1.25 GHz can be attained without much effort.
This has opened the door for a 1 GHz HD 7970, making it the third 1 GHz board from its lineup (the other two are HD 7770 and HD 7870).
The new cards will have better overclocking potential too. NVIDIA might really have to crank up its marketing strategy soon.
There was no mention of when the leap from 925 MHz to 1GHz+ will be made, but we hope it comes fast.
