Sony is yet another mobile phone maker who has already made new devices official at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain.
On Sunday, the handset vendor announced the upcoming availability of Xperia P and Xperia U, two devices meant to deliver connected entertainment experiences. Both these smartphones were included in the company’s Xperia NXT series.
The new family of handsets is meant to introduce a new look, with specific elements for everyone to spot them, such as the "transparent element", a band at the base of the phone that includes a series of invisible elements.
These smartphones also feature a new User Interface (UI), in line with the Android experience: rich applications and content available via a simple, clean look.
The Xperia P comes with a full aluminium unibody design and the new WhiteMagic display technology from Sony. It is accompanied by a SmartDock, exclusively designed for it.
The specs list of Xperia P includes a 4" Reality Display (Mobile BRAVIA Engine), a 1 GHz dual-core application processor and 16GB of flash storage.
On the back, the new mobile phone sports an 8-megapixel photo snapper with HD video recording capabilities. The handset also comes with NFC (Near Field Communications), and with HDMI and DLNA connectivity.
The phone will be released in silver, black and red colors. The phone will run Android 2.3 (Gingerbread), at launch, but will taste Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) during the second quarter of 2012.
The Xperia U smartphone arrives with entertainment capabilities that include xLoud and Sony 3D surround sound audio technology, DLNA, and a new Smart Headset for Android smartphones.
The mobile phone arrives on shelves with a 3.5" Reality Display (Mobile BRAVIA Engine), 1 GHz dual-core application processor, a 5-megapixel photo snapper on the back with fast capture, HD recording and Sony technology (it can shoot 2D and 3D panoramic images).
Sony Xperia U will arrive on shelves with in white and black flavors, with pink and yellow exchangeable caps. The same as Xperia P, it will get a taste of Android 4.0 after launch.
