If you thought that Acer is out of the mobile phone business than think again. It appears that the company is trying to cut its heavy losses and regroup under the Android banner.
Acer has revealed that its unannounced CloudMobile smartphone has received the “iF design award 2012,” which recognizes the device’s outstanding look.
In addition, Acer’s mobile division claims that Acer CloudMobile is the first smartphone built to take advantage of the AcerCloud technology. Apparently, this technology “securely connects personal content from Cloud PCs through CloudMobile.”
Photos can be pushed to and from CloudMobile, as well as music files, so user can listen their favorite music while on the go. According to the company, AcerCloud “enhances mobile productivity by providing seamless document management.”
AcerCloud offers users the possibility to access and browse any recent file from CloudMobile and print it with Acer Print wirelessly.
Acer CloudMobile smartphone features an ultra-slim design, which is one of the reasons it got rewarded by iF design jury.
Acer describes the device as being made from “stainless steel on the front, featuring a Dolby speaker plate on the back.” Acer CloudMobile has a narrow bezel to provide more room for the 4.3-inch capacitive HD display.
Although the company does not provide more details on the phone’s specs sheet, the guys over at Pocket-lint have learned from a source close to the matter that the Acer CloudMobile will be delivered with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich on board.
No word on the smartphone’s processor, but we can safely assume it will be equipped with a dual core CPU. Acer also confirmed that the device is only 10mm thin and will be available in Q3 2012.
The Acer CloudMobile will be officially unveiled at the end of February at the Mobile World Congress exhibition in Barcelona, Spain.
