EVGA has just announced a new firmware for its 500-series GeForce GTX graphics cards that allows much better control of the card's fan speeds using the EVGA Precision tool or other third-party software.
Before this update, most of the EVGA graphics cards could only adjust their fan speed between 40 to 85 percent, but the new Unlocker BIOS increases that range to 30-100%, for greater flexibility in fan control.
In addition, to the new fan speed ranges, the update also includes the latest firmware for your card.
A list of the cards that are compatible with the new EVGA Fanspeed Unlocker FW is available here together with instructions regarding the update process, and the firmware can be downloaded from company website by clocking on link provided below.

Is it possible to use this on other brands of Geforce?
Reason being the manufacturer of my 580 hasn't released any updated bios since launch.
