The collaboration between Research and Motion and Porsche Design is no myth at all, as the companies have just announced a common launch event on October 27.
The folks over at Suff have just received an invitation to this event that confirms the collaboration with Porsche Design.
“You have been specially selected to join us for a VIP preview evening on an exclusive collaboration between Porsche Design and BlackBerry,” the invitation reads.
The event will be held in Dubai, on Thursday, October 27 from 7pm and 10pm. Rumor has it that the companies will announced the mysterious BlackBerry 9980, also known as Knight.
According to the latest hearsay, BlackBerry 9980 is a luxury adaptation of the Bold 9900, which is specifically targeted for UAE and other regions where BlackBerry devices are still very attractive.
BlackBerry Bold 9980 have been spotted in China, which indicates that the device is real and ready to be launched on the market.
Although the last Bold 9980 that emerged bears China Mobile's logo, it appears that Porsche Design and RIM decided to announce the device in Dubai, instead of China.
However, this makes sense as UAE is a country where BlackBerry smartphones are still considered hot.
Secondly, Bold 9980 is a premium device and will be priced accordingly, which makes it more suitable for a mature market like UAE, instead of an emerging one such as China.
If this is indeed an adaptation of the Bold 9900, then it should be delivered with BlackBerry 7 operating system, which might get an exclusive user interface to emphasize the collaboration between the two companies.
In addition, the phone is equipped with a single core 1.2 GHz processor and packs 8GB of internal memory, 768 MB of RAM, as well as microSD card slot for memory expansion (up to 32GB).
